Trompeter Introduces Inline DS3 Testing & Monitoring ModuleOctober 14, 2005
by -- Trompeter ElectronicsTrompeter, the leading provider of DS3 interconnect solutions for the telco central office, introduces the TMM-2 Inline Test and Monitor Module, designed for location testing in central offices equipped with newer, remote and/or software provisionable network elements.
In the public switched telephone network, , initial turn-up and verification of circuits still requires technicians to perform bit error rate tests at the physical level to ensure error-free service end to end. Also, inbound signal monitoring access points in the physical network may also be required by service technicians even after initial installation to help isolate errors detected by the network or the customer. This new product offers both of these capabilities in a single module.
“The TMM-2 introduces new levels of testing and monitoring cost effectiveness to the modern central office,” said Dale Reed, vice president of sales and marketing for Trompeter. “Even with the sophisticated provisioning software service providers have, there’s still a need for location testing, and our TMM-2 enables that to be done at a fraction of the cost of a DSX.”
The TMM-2 provides BNC ports on the rear of the module for connections to both sides of the network, providing a normal-thru path for the DS3 circuits. The front panel is equipped with two monitor ports and two network access ports in WECo series patch format. Each monitor port presents a –20db signal, ensuring error-free monitor capability. Network element access is accomplished by insertion of standard WECo plugs into front panel test access jacks, breaking the circuit per BERT requirements. Circuit loop back for the client is easily accomplished with any 75 ohm “hair-pin” (looping plug) by inserting both barrels into the center two test access jacks.
