Peter Mansbridge/Cynthia Dale to co-host tribute night at Banff

Banff, AB, - CBC's news anchor Peter Mansbridge and Canadian actress Cynthia Dale will co-host an evening of celebration on Tuesday, June 10 at the 24th Banff Television Festival's Tribute night.

The evening will honour the outstanding contributions of the U.S. television industry, present BANFF 2026's awards for outstanding achievement and salute the the 60th Anniversary of ACTRA � the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists. Tribute takes place in the Van Horne Ballroom of the Fairmont Banff Springs beginning at 6:00 p.m. (Mountain Time).

"Banff 2026's Tribute evening showcases the very best in television, from news to performance, and who better to host this celebration than Canada's premier media couple: Cynthia and Peter. They do not normally appear on stage together, but BANFF is an exception, and we look forward to an exceptional evening in their hands," said Pat Ferns, president and CEO of the Banff Television Foundation.

Peter Mansbridge is the chief correspondent of CBC Television News. He anchors CBC's flagship nightly news program, The National, and all CBC News Specials. He is also the host of Mansbridge: One on One on CBC Newsworld. He has received nine Gemini Awards for excellence in broadcast journalism and won the Gemini for Best Anchor seven times, receiving the award more times than anyone else.

Cynthia Dale is an award-winning theatre actress whose credits at the Stratford Festival include My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Man of La Mancha, The Miracle Worker, The Taming of the Shrew and Camelot. In television, she starred as "Olivia Novak" on CBC's Street Legal for eight seasons. Additional television and film credits include The Boy in Blue, Moonstruck, Barnum (A&E), and Spencer for Hire (ABC) to name a few.

A special homage to the U.S. television industry will be a main feature at Tribute night. Key U.S. industry leaders will be in attendance to participate in this event honouring the United States of America's outstanding contribution to world television. Receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards will be James Burrows, respected U.S. television sitcom creator, writer, producer and director; Peter McGhee, one of public television's most distinguished producers and programmers; and Sheila Nevins, documentary producer and HBO executive vice president of original programming. A special Rockie award will be presented to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences saluting its exceptional contributions to American television.

Receiving this year's Global Television Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes a body of creative work over time, is ZDF German Television, one of Europe's largest broadcasters and a leading provider of high-quality programming.

The winner of this year's Sonic Foundry Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, representing the pinnacle of technical achievement in television and new media over time, is Sony CineAlta of Japan.

2003 marks the 60th Anniversary of ACTRA, the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, and BANFF is pleased to salute this important milestone at its Tribute event. ACTRA's 60th Anniversary represents 60 years of Canadian performances, 60 years of contributions to Canadian culture, and 60 years of advances in protections for performers.

Two additional awards will be presented at Tribute: the CTV Fellowship Prize (winner to be announced shortly), awarded to a graduate of the CTV Fellowship Program who has experienced major success in the industry, and the Warner Bros. Entertainment Banff Mentorship Award given to a talented Canadian female producer or director, providing her the opportunity to attend the Festival and participate in a three-month Market Mentorship.

Following Tribute will be a special reception in the Riverview Lounge, sponsored by Oxygen Media/Association of Audiovisual and Filmindustry of Austria, and SATEL Group, in honour of the evening's award recipients and special guests.

BANFF 2026, the 24th Banff Television Festival takes place June 8 to 13 at the Fairmont Banff Springs and is expected to draw over 1,800 delegates from around the world.
