TORONTO - Digital Radio Roll-Out Inc. announced today that Radio Shack Canada will offer the Perstel DR101 (DAB/FM) personal portable for $99.99.
"This dramatic price breakthrough eliminates the price barrier for prospective consumers eager to experience digital radio," says a DRRI press release.
DRRI will also launch a new phase of its radio campaign in support of Digital Audio Broadcasting which will highlight this price milestone and drive traffic to the DAB web site, www.digitalradio.ca.
DAB is free of charge, does not require a subscription and has numerous advantages over both current analog transmission and other digital radio transmission technologies, says DRRI. Now available to 350 million people worldwide, DAB offers both CD-quality sound and portability. It features a host of data display services for the consumer including song titles and artist names, traffic and weather information, emergency updates, advertising supplements, sports scores and a good deal more - while the listener is treated to interference-free reception.
Currently, over 70 DAB stations have made service available to 11 million people in Vancouver, Toronto, Windsor, and Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax.
Digital Radio Roll-Out Inc. ( DRRI), is a non-profit joint initiative of major private broadcasters (Astral Media Inc., CHUM Ltd., Corus Entertainment Inc., Rogers Media, Standard Radio Inc., Telemedia Radio Inc.), a number of smaller private broadcasters, and public broadcasters (CBC, Radio Canada) with the support of the Canadian government. DRRI's mandate is the introduction of digital audio broadcasting services across Canada. DAB is the replacement technology for current AM and FM analog transmission.
