VICTORIA - Hudson Mack, news director, The New VI, has lured another former co-worker into his new nest.
The New VI announced this week that Meribeth Burton will join the station as senior reporter/anchor.
As reported by broadcastermagazine.com, CHUM hired the popular Mack away from Global Television's CHEK this summer and since then, both Burton and legislative reporter Moira McLean have jumped from CH to CHUM. (Global, on the other hand, has since hired former CTV Vancouver bureau chief Ed Watson to anchor the CH news.)
In her new role, Burton will report on daily breaking news stories, provide live reports from around Vancouver Island and perform back-up anchor duties for the suppertime newscast.
"Meribeth has impeccable local news credentials in this market," says Mack. "She's extremely well known, an exceptional reporter and is a great addition to our news team."
Burton has spent the past 10 years at CH Television in Victoria. Most recently the host of CH News at Noon and CH News at 5, she has also held the positions of reporter and weekend anchor at the station. She has participated in and hosts more than 30 community events a year. Initiatives include: the World Partnership Walk and Cops for Cancer "Tour de Rock."
Burton will begin on-air at The New VI on October 12. She joins former Shaw Cable Victoria host Stephen Andrews and Mack, the newest members of The New VI news team.
