TORONTO - The Global Television Network and Vancouver's Paperny Films announced yesterday that production on the new series My Fabulous Gay Wedding, starring actor and former Kids in the Hall member Scott Thompson, will begin August 21 in Toronto.
In each of the six, one-hour episodes, set to air on Global in early 2005, the series follows a different gay or lesbian couple as they prepare to exchange their wedding vows. With two weeks to make the couple's wishes for a dream wedding come true, the My Fabulous Gay Wedding team must surprise each couple with a wedding day more fabulous than they could have imagined.
To assist with the nuptials is wedding planner Fern Cohen, a seasoned professional who knows the rules of throwing straight society weddings. Keeping a tight rein on logistics and practicalities, she will play "Bad Cop" to Thompson's "Wedding Fairy." Gregory White, an experienced planner and caterer, rounds out the team, says the press release.
"With the outrageously entertaining Scott Thompson at the helm, My Fabulous Gay Wedding will take viewers through the highs and lows of wedding planning as well as offer a personal glimpse inside the lives of our dynamic couples," said Loren Mawhinney, Global's vice-president of Canadian production.
