Five illegal satellite dealers raided in Quebec
5/29/2003

CHICOUTIMI - While the RCMP seems to insist on keeping these raids as some kind of secret once done, the Mounties recently raided five illegal satellite dealers in Chicoutimi.

In a release issued today, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters applauded the raids.

"Time and time again, we have advocated the need for rigorous enforcement by police forces across the country against illegal satellite equipment dealers for the simple reason, that theft is theft and stealing programming services is obviously no different," said Glenn O'Farrell, CAB president and CEO, in the release.

"We continue to press government to introduce legislative amendments including increased penalties against signal theft. We urge the police agencies to continue to prosecute this illegal and damaging activity and we will continue to actively play our part in curtailing signal theft and protecting broadcasters rights," he added.
