LaFlamme, Thompson, take new roles
7/30/2003

TORONTO - CanWest Global TV's Toronto evening news anchor Beverly Thomson will move to the morning and go national in late August by joining Canada AM. She will replace Lisa LaFlamme who will become CTV's national affairs correspondent, reports Canadian Press.

It's been an unsettled past couple of years for CTV's venerable morning program, which relieved popular former hosts Valerie Pringle and Dan Matheson of their hosting duties in 2001, introducing LaFlamme and Rod Black as their replacements, to much fanfare.

Black lasted less than a year trying to do double-duty as Canada AM host and still retain his role as one of CTV's main sports announcers. He went back to sports and was replaced last fall with Seamus O'Regan.

"Lisa loves hard news and it's like her life," CTV news president Robert Hurst told Canadian Press. "Bev Thomson has had a dream of co-hosting Canada AM," Hurst said. "So we are offering her the ability to have her dreams come true."
