CanWest plucks Bullard from CTV to multi-task TV, on-line and print
8/6/2003

TORONTO - Mike Bullard has joined CanWest Global Communications.

Beginning in the fall, the now-former host of CTV/Comedy Network's Open Mike with Mike Bullard will host a late night talk-variety show.

Global's multi-year deal with Bullard is effective August 25, 2003, and will see him play an active role as a contributor to CanWest's newspaper and online properties in addition to his late night hosting duties.

"With Mike Bullard joining the Global family, we take another major step in our vision to develop quality Canadian content and Canadian stars and share them with a worldwide audience," said Rick Camilleri, COO, CanWest Global, in a release. "Today's announcement is another affirmation of our passion for Canadian talent and follows the recent re-signing of Global National anchor Kevin Newman, the success of Train 48 and the launch of the Toronto morning show Global News Morning."

"I look forward to taking Scott Feschuk's place at the National Post and finally getting a good review for my show," said Bullard in a release, referring to the newspaper's TV columnist.

"We are excited by the addition of Mike Bullard to the Global lineup," added Doug Hoover, CanWest's senior vice-president of programming and promotions. "The late night show is a strategic acquisition and is another building block in the architecture of our programming schedule."

Bullard hosted his Gemini Award-winning show on the Comedy Network and CTV for six seasons.

The late night show's new studio will be located in downtown Toronto.

No word yet if the multi-tasking comedian/host/writer will test his jazz chops and cut a CD for CanWest's COOL Records/COOL FM/COOL TV.
