QUEBEC CITY - The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) honoured the work of private broadcasters at the 2003 Gold Ribbon awards ceremony which was held throughout its annual conference in the Quebec capital.

The association received a record-breaking 396 entries for the awards, which recognize outstanding productions in radio, television, specialty and pay services, new media and community service.

CAB's highest honour, the 2003 Gold Ribbon for Broadcast Excellence, as reported two weeks ago by www.broadcastermagazine.com, was awarded to Andr Bureau, chairman of the board for Astral Media Inc.

The winner of the 2003 Gold Ribbon for Outstanding Community Service by an Individual Broadcaster is Valerie Morrissette, vice-president, human resources, Pelmorex Inc. This award recognizes individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution - above and beyond normal station-related activities - to improving the quality of life in their community. Ms Morrissette is dedicated to making Pelmorex, operators of The Weather Network and MetoMdia, an open place to work for visible minorities and those with disabilities.
