TORONTO - As Alliance Atlantis Communications continues to streamline its operations, it today announced that Phyllis Yaffe has been appointed to the new role of chief operating officer of the company, effective immediately.
The company decided in December 2003 to exit virtually all in-house production and focus on continued profitable growth in the broadcast sector and since Yaffe was CEO of Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting, her promotion was a natural one. Going forward, the company will not have separate divisional CEOs.
"In light of the changes to the company's business model resulting from our Entertainment Group restructuring, it is important that we adopt a streamlined management and operating structure to combine the Broadcast, Entertainment and Corporate Groups into one integrated entity," said Michael MacMillan, chairman and CEO.
This streamlined structure does not affect the role and responsibilities of Judson Martin, senior executive vice-president and CFO, who will continue to report directly to MacMillan, as will Yaffe.
"Phyllis Yaffe is an extremely talented individual, and in her previous role as CEO of our Broadcast Group, she has led that business through tremendous growth and success and I know she'll do the same as COO of Alliance Atlantis Communications," MacMillan said.
