VICTORIA - The Royal Victoria Yacht Club has presented C-FAX 1070 with its annual "Jim McVie Humphrey Golby Memorial Award". The award is named in honor of two stalwarts of the annual Swiftsure International Yacht Race, one of yachting's most challenging events.
In presenting the award, Swiftsure 2004 chair Bill Conconi praised C-FAX 1070 for its many years of support of the annual event, adding, "We feel like C-FAX 1070 is our radio station," says the station's press release.
"It's a tremendous honor to receive this prestigious award. We fondly remember the two men it is named for Jim McVie, the fabulous photographer, and Humphrey Golby, whose brilliant commentary was a part of our Swiftsure coverage for many years," added C-FAX vice-president Terry Spence.
C-FAX 1070, which has been sold to CHUM Ltd., along with its FM sister station B107.3 (pending Commission approval), has been the "official radio station" of the Swiftsure International Yacht Race for more than 30 years.
