Broadcaster donates $1 million to schools
Saskatoon, SK - A western Canadian broadcaster is donating one million dollars to two post-secondary schools to help First Nations students succeed in business.
The gift is from Gordon Rawlinson, president of Calgary-based Rawlco Communications.
It is earmarked for the University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College - both in Saskatoon.
The money will be used for bursaries, scholarships, computers, research and other programs for aboriginal and Metis business students.
Rawlinson, who is 55, graduated from the university in 1968.
He owns stations in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including CFR Radio in Calgary and NTR News Talk Radio in Saskatoon and Regina, among other interests.
Rawlinson says the donation is a way for him ''to give back to
the school and give back to Saskatchewan.''
