CBC ComedyCoup Announces Winner of The Big Deal

CBC ComedyCoup announced HumanTown as the lucky recipient of The Big Deal, $500,000 in production financing for the creation of a half-hour comedy special to be air on CBC Television in Fall 2015.   CBC  also committed to a development deal with Dépflies.

CBC ComedyCoup, a disruptive studio that accelerates comedy creators toward development and production opportunities for their original show concepts, hosted its finale, “The Big Deal” pitch event.  It was the last challenge in an intense, 10-week program that left The Final 5 teams pitching their project before a panel of industry pros.  The live pitch included an on-stage introduction, a video highlight reel, an on-stage close and an intense Q&A between the panel and each of the finalists.

“The teams offered their absolute best on this white-knuckle ride and we’re fired up by the end result,” said CineCoup founder J Joly. “We’re proud that our studio model, has again empowered and shepherded talented Canadian content creators to produce a project in record time for a major broadcaster, minus the burden of traditional industry roadblocks.”

”CBC ComedyCoup has been an exciting exercise in creativity and determination for hundreds of comedy creators and we’re blown away by the results,” said Michelle Daly, senior director of comedy, commissioned and scripted programming for CBC Television. “CBC is happy to provide a home to HumanTown and we commend all of the funny Canadians who put their best foot forward – we have our eyes on you too!”

HumanTown hailing from Vancouver wowed the panel with an unforgettable pitch that sealed The Big Deal. “We’re incredibly surprised and excited! This project has been a dream of ours for years.  We’ve been working together on comedy since high school and are thrilled to have made this accomplishment with our best friends,” say team members Kajetan Kwiatkowski, Daniel Doheny and Kane Stewart.  They will immediately move into the development process with producers from CBC Television and Just For Laughs, with the intent to include the special during CBC’s 2015 Fall schedule.
