Performer, actress and comedienne Sandra Bernhard leads the Canadian International Comedy Fest lineup with a headline performance at Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre on Friday, March 22, 2013. Best known for her recurring role on the network sitcom Roseanne and her raving one-woman shows, Sandra Bernhard, who writes and develops all of her own material, has been entertaining audiences for more than 30 years with her unparalleled wit and provocative humour.
Her role as stalker and kidnapper Masha in the Martin Scorsese film The King of Comedy won her the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress. Between on and off-Broadway shows, she has taken to recording, releasing more than a dozen albums to her credit – a combination of comedy and music.
Bernhard’s most recent show, I Love Being Me, Don’t You?, played to sold-out crowds for an extended run last summer in Los Angeles. The album version of the show was released on Rooftop Records last fall, and she has been touring with it since. “She has chutzpah to spare, but it’s her articulate intelligence that earns our attention … It’s [her] combination of glamour and accessibility that accounts for Bernhard’s enduring appeal,” wrote the Los Angeles Times.
