CTV Edmonton Goes HD with Local Newscasts

CTV Edmonton begins broadcasting its local newscasts in high definition on Monday, Oct. 1. CTV MORNING LIVE, CTV NEWS AT NOON, CTV NEWS AT FIVE, 5:30, and SIX, and CTV NEWS AT 11:30 will all be presented in HD.

“This is perhaps the most significant technological advancement since we started producing local programs in colour in 1970,” said Brad Hooper, Manager of Operations and Engineering, CTV Edmonton. “We’re transforming our building with entirely new technology, linked together with over 30 kilometers of new cabling.”

After the transition, viewers who receive CTV Edmonton’s signal in HD will enjoy a 1080i high definition digital picture.

“We strive to provide our viewers with the best in local news journalism,” said Dan Kobe, Director of News and Public Affairs, CTV Edmonton. “We’re thrilled that our broadcast standards will be of the highest quality as well.”

“October 1 will mark the beginning of an exciting new era for CTV Edmonton,” said Lloyd Lewis, Vice-President and General Manager, CTV Edmonton. ”The immense capital investment, along with the many months of intense effort to make this transition, truly highlights our commitment to provide the best service possible to our viewers.”
