Toronto, – Today at 3:00pm, the sound of Elvis Presley’s “A Little Less Conversation” signaled the return of oldies radio to 1050 CHUM in Toronto.
The music format featuring the best songs from the late 50s, 60s and 70s, replaces The TEAM radio sports programming that has been broadcast on 1050 CHUM since May 2001.
“After over a year in the sports radio business, it became clear that the amount of investment in time and money we dedicated to
the TEAM Radio Network, did not show signs of audience growth in the Toronto area” reports CHUM Radio President Jim Waters.
“Programming great music stations for a local audience is what we do best! The heritage of 1050 CHUM has touched millions of listeners here in Toronto and throughout Canada. Now, the great music Toronto grew up with is back on 1050 CHUM!”
The move back to a music based format means the end of sports programming on 1050 CHUM and other CHUM owned and operated stations in Winnipeg, Kitchener/Waterloo, Kingston and Halifax.
TEAM 1040 in Vancouver, TEAM 1200 in Ottawa and TEAM 990 in Montreal will remain as all sports stations. “In Vancouver, Ottawa
and Montreal, our sports radio stations with their local focus and first-in-the-format advantage are performing well” emphasized Mr.
