Former Alliance Atlantis CEO Phyllis Yaffe Joins Comweb Board of Directors


Paul Bronfman, Chairman/CEO of Comweb Corp. and William F. White International Inc. (Whites) is pleased to announce the appointment of Phyllis Yaffe to the Comweb/Whites Board of Directors, effective immediately.

“Phyllis Yaffe has been a powerful force behind the growth of the Canadian film and television industry for over three decades,” states Bronfman. “We are honoured that she has agreed to serve on our board and we believe that her unparalleled experience and contributions will be extremely valuable to our company’s future success.”

Phyllis Yaffe is Chair of the Board of Directors of Cineplex Entertainment Corp. and Lead Director on the Board of Torstar Corporation.  In 2007, Ms. Yaffe retired from the role of Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., a position she held since 2005.  In fact, since the 1980s, she has held numerous high-profile positions in Canada’s film and television industry including Chief Operating Officer of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting Inc. 

Ms. Yaffe also serves on the Boards of Directors of Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation and Blue Ant Media, a privately held Canadian media company, and until its acquisition, sat on the Board of Directors of Astral Media Inc.  She is also Chair of Women Against Multiple Sclerosis.  In 1999, Ms. Yaffe was selected as the Canadian Women in Communications Woman of the Year, and in 2000, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Women in Film and Television (WIFT).  In 2006, Ms. Yaffe was included in the Women’s Executive Network’s list of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women and in 2007, she was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Broadcast Hall of Fame.  Ms. Yaffe was appointed to the Ryerson University Board of Governors in 2005, was elected Vice Chair of the Board in 2007 and Chair of the Board in 2010.  In May 2014, Ms. Yaffe stepped down from the Chairmanship of Ryerson University and now sits on its Board of Governors.
