Global BC is pleased to announce several major changes to its on-air lineup, highlighted by the shift of Randene Neill and Squire Barnes to News Hour Final as the program’s new anchors. These moves are designed to further reinforce Global BC as a leading news-gathering source in the province. Randene and Squire move to News Hour Final beginning tonight, November 21 at 11pm.
After ten years working together on the Global BC Noon News Hour, Randene and Squire bring their well-honed news sense and amazing chemistry to the highly-popular late night newscast News Hour Final. This move gives the two seasoned broadcasters the opportunity to grow the late night brand, and redefine it both as a timely source for the news of the day and a destination for irreverent and entertaining content. Replacing Randene and Squire on the Noon News Hour is current Morning News co-anchor Sophie Lui and sportscaster Jay Durant.
Much-loved reporter Lynn Colliar returns to air and to the anchor chair as host of the Saturday Morning News and Sunday Morning News, as well as the Weekend Noon News Hour beginning Saturday, November 26th. Returning from maternity leave, Colliar brings a wealth of personality and experience with her as anchor of both programs.
“As the province’s leading news team, Global BC is continuously looking for ways to better deliver timely and unparalleled news to viewers in new and dynamic ways,” said Troy Reeb, Vice-President, Global News. “These on-air shifts help redefine Global BC in order to better deliver the news across the province to keep viewers informed.”
In an innovative move, Global BC veteran anchor Jill Krop moves from News Hour Final to head the creation of a new online news-gathering source. Dubbed Trending (working title), Krop will analyze and investigate the top trending stories breaking online, then bring these topics to air on the Early News and News Hour every evening. Krop will also interact with viewers and online users to help shape Trending’s content and bridge the gap between stories reported on in each newscast and those making waves online. Trending is scheduled to launch in the New Year. More details will be made available in the coming months.
