  • Shattered City to be heard on VoicePrint

    10/20/2003

TORONTO - The largest man-made explosion prior to the atomic bomb will be heard loud and clear with the help of described video by AudioVision Canada (AVC) on CBC.

VoicePrint Canada will simul-cast the described version of Shattered City: The Halifax Explosion, a CBC mini-series airing this Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern on the secondary audio program channel (SAP) of CBC. The described version of Shattered City by AVC will narrate on-screen characters and actions for the benefit of blind and low-vision viewers.

On December 6, 1917 the Halifax Explosion killed more than 2,000 people, left 6,000 homeless and propelled a 1,000-pound anchor two miles from the harbour.

Established in 1989, NBRS is a not-for-profit organization set up to respond to the needs of blind, low-vision, senior and other print-restricted Canadians for access to printed news, information and entertainment. VoicePrint Canada, a division of NBRS, provides an audio information service via the S.A.P. of CBC Newsworld and the Internet.
