RTNDA Atlantic award winners

    St. John's - The best in Canadian broadcasting in Atlantic Canada in 2024 was honoured Saturday afternoon at the Radio-Television News Directors Association Atlantic Regional
    convention in St. John's, Newfoundland.

    The winners in radio are:

    VOCM St. John's picked up four awards including the Charlie Edwards Award for spot news reporting for ''Club Fire'' and the Ron Laidlaw Award for continuing coverage for ''Pouch Cove.'' CBC St. John's received an Honourable Mention in the Ron Laidlaw category for ''Stranded.''

    The Dan McArthur Award for in-depth or investigative reporting went to CBC Radio Fredericton for ''Two Southeast.'' CBC St. John's received an Honourable Mention for ''To Smile Again as Children.''

    KJL Fredericton won the Sam Ross Award for editorial for ''Gender Differences.''

    The Gord Sinclair Award (Medium Market) for special event coverage went to VOCM St. John's for ''Liberal Leadership.''

    The Byron MacGregor Award for best radio newscast went to the following stations:

    Medium Market: VOCM St. John's for ''The 7:45 News.''

    Small Market: CJLS Yarmouth for ''CJLS Noon News.'' KHJ Fredericton received an Honourable Mention for ''The 5 p.m. News.''

    The new RTNDA Web site award went to CBC Radio Halifax for ''CBC.ca/Maritime Noon.''

    Television

    Global Television won the Charlie Edwards Award for ''Sussex Bus Crash.''

    The Ron Laidlaw Award was presented to ATV News for ''Accidental Tourists.''

    CBC New Brunswick won the Dan McArthur Award for ''Cutting Corners.''

    The Dave Rogers Award went to CBC New Brunswick for ''Youth Jail.'' ATV News received an Honourable Mention for ''A Survivor's Story.''

    NTV St. John's won the Sam Ross Award for ''A Sad Day in Pouch Cove.''

    The Gord Sinclair Award (Large Market) went to ATV News for ''Navy Send-off.''

    Global Television won the Bert Cannings Award for best television newscast (Medium Market). There were no winners in the Large and
    Small Market categories.

    The Atlantic Regional winners now go on to compete for the RTNDA National Awards to be presented at the RTNDA National Convention in Montreal on May 25th.
