ABC to stream "Desperate Housewives" via AOL

NEW YORK Desperate for hits, America Online will now deliver weekly online recaps of the hit series "Desperate Housewives," ABC and AOL said yesterday. The agreement reflects a content-as-king approach, which major Web portals are embracing more and more.

Each Monday following a new episode of the show, fans will be able to watch three- to four-minute recaps of the previous evening's episode, as well as a preview of the upcoming week's episode. Morning-after recaps will be offered through the show's season finale, and they will be archived for viewing through September 2005. Over the course of the season, fans will also be able to enjoy "Best Of" videos, highlighting the season's best moments.

"This partnership with ABC surrounding the hottest new show of the season, 'Desperate Housewives,' further solidifies AOL's position as a leading provider of compelling and unique video for online consumers," said Patricia Karpas, vice-president and general manager of AOL Television. "Through this collaboration, we are extending the viewing experience from on-air to online, which will help keep fans engaged between episodes."

Bruce Gersh, senior vice-president, ABC Business Development, commented, "ABC broadcasts the best programming on television, including the number one new show and most talked about show of the season, 'Desperate Housewives.'
