NEW YORK, NEW YORK, December 4, 2001 — Emblaze Systems (LSE: BLZ), a developer of carrier-class, scalable solutions that facilitate the deployment of complete commercial multimedia services over any wireless network, today announced the successful conclusion of a six-month interoperability trial managed by the Wireless Multimedia Forum (WMF). Five vendors completed the five-stage testing program on November 5th in Zurich, Switzerland. The test was executed according to the specifications of the WMF Recommended Technical Framework Document (RTFD) Version 1.0 document, which Emblaze Systems co-authored.
The Wireless Multimedia Forum is an international, multi-vendor forum and gathering point for vendors developing products, services, and information focused on the delivery of rich media content to an exploding number of mobile and wireless devices. The WMF’s efforts will accelerate the marketplace for wireless multimedia content delivery, both for today’s wireless networks and 3G networks by enabling products and services from many industry participants to work together
The document specifies technologies to be used in the delivery of streaming multimedia applications. These interoperability standards will enable users of any multimedia enabled wireless device to receive multimedia services such as news, weather, sports or entertainment regardless of the device and from any carrier around the world.
According to Emblaze Systems CEO Eli Reifman, the test reaffirms Emblaze Systems’ commitment to the promotion and implementation of interoperability in wireless multimedia communications. ”Interoperability is essential for the successful implementation of applications and services on current and near future networks. Emblaze and other global leaders in the wireless industry joined the WMF as well as other organizations governing industry standards, such as the 3GPP, because we understand that the successful adoption of a standard will be key to unlocking the vast revenue potential for carriers, content providers and service providers. Emblaze is pleased to be one of the leaders in these efforts,” said Eli Reifman.
