Awards of Excellence 2005 Celebrating the Best in Canadian Children’s Television!

The Alliance for Children and Television (ACT) invites all Canadian producers of children’s and youth programs to compete for the English-Language Awards of Excellence 2005, which will be presented at an awards ceremony in Toronto in June 2005. All entries must be received at the ACT office in Montreal by no later than Friday, February 25, 2005, at 5 p.m.

The ACT Awards of Excellence honours English- and French-language productions in alternate years, with the 2005 edition being reserved for Canadian programs produced in English. To be eligible for the competition, programs must have aired in Canada, in English, for the first time between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2004.

Two new categories will be introduced this year: the Interstitial category, reserved for hosted segments and short programs of five minutes or less; and a category for Best Website associated with a children’s program.

In addition to the Grand Prize for Best Program, All Categories, programs will compete for Awards of Excellence in the following seven categories:

· Animation Ages 3–5
· Animation Ages 6–8
· Animation Ages 9–14

· All Genres Ages 3–5
· All Genres Ages 6–8
· All Genres Ages 9–12
· All Genres Teens

Three special awards will also be presented:

· The Special Jury Award, presented to a person or team for exceptional achievement in a particular category (costumes, makeup, set design, music, scriptwriting, direction, etc.).

· The Emerging Talent Award, presented to a person under 30 who is an example to his or her peers, in order to encourage, support and foster new talent.

· The Outstanding Achievement Award, presented to a person who has had a distinguished career in youth programming.
