Soundcraft Adds BB100 to Broadcast PortfolioNovember 29, 2005
by -- Soundcraft Canada
In a consolidation of the Harman Mixer Group product portfolios, Soundcraft has released the classic BB100 console (formerly available from Amek) as one of its analogue Broadcast consoles, finalizing the restructuring of the Broadcast offerings from Soundcraft and Studer.
The configurable desk is available in four frame sizes, and can be built with or without up to eight subgroups. Each model has a choice of mono and stereo inputs, with eight Aux buses and up to five Stereo returns (depending on module configuration).
Broadcasters will be particularly interested in the provision of up to four Cleanfeed Outputs with talkback. These outputs can be changed (using internal jumpers) to an output matrix fed from the groups and main output. They will also appreciate the Control Room Monitor section, which has external inputs and outputs for Main and Nearfield speakers. One of the sources has a four-input sub mixer for returns from video machines.
Other features of the BB100 include ‘soft’ Mute circuits, fader starts as standard, external mute control, stereo input channels with M-S (sum and difference) switches, direct outputs on all mono input channels and conductive plastic faders.
The BB100 has been a popular console worldwide, and because of its compact size has been a favourite in smaller OB trucks. As an example, the Picture Canning Company, the London-based supplier of broadcast production shooting crews and facilities, installed a BB100 audio mixer into its Unit 3 Outside Broadcast vehicle. As usual, audio facilities have been squeezed into a tight space and Picture Canning needed a small footprint mixer with big desk facilities After much research and comparison, they found that the BB100 best performed to their requirements.
The van also features other Harman products, such as JBL monitors, plus BSS and Lexicon signal processing and effects.
