CBC Radio One today announces Jeff Douglas as the new co-host joining Carol Off on As It Happens, CBC Radio One's long-running current affairs program, effective January 4.

"We engaged in a very wide search both near and far to find just the right co-host to join Carol Off on As it Happens," says Denise Donlon, general manager, CBC Radio. "Jeff brings a wealth of experience to the role - from his documentary work and his performance attributes, to his ability to really connect with Canadians and share stories from around the world."

Chosen after an extensive selection process, Douglas has a deep background in documentaries, presentation and the arts. He will be a familiar voice to regular AS IT HAPPENS listeners, having taken the seat as a guest co-host on occasion.

Douglas's broadcast experience includes hosting the award-winning Ancestors in the Attic on History Television, in which he chronicled the stories of ordinary people and their extraordinary experiences. He has hosted the National Geographic documentary series called Making History, which aired internationally. As well, he has travelled across the country and back in time exploring the lives of common Canadian workers in Working Over Time. On National Geographic Canada, he was host of the documentary series Things That Move, and hosted the 161 country-wide live broadcast of Jetman Live.

Douglas has won numerous awards for his work, including three Gemini nominations but is probably best known to Canadians as ‘Joe Canadian' from the iconic I am Canadian campaign.

Douglas joins host Carol Off, award-winning journalist, author and documentary filmmaker. AS IT HAPPENS celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024 and is best known for getting to the heart of stories via telephone interviews from around the world.
