AM740 Gets Francks 'Round Midnight

AM740 Prime Time Radio will premiere a new program hosted by Canadian actor Don Francks.

Called 'Round Midnight, the program will include jazz, some blues, rhythm & blues, pop, show tunes, spoken word and many surprises, the station describes. The program debuts Monday, August 7th at 11:00 p.m.

AM 740 launched January 8th, 2001, and is formally named CHWO-AM.

Don Francks is one of Canada's best-known actors, most notably known for starring as Walter' on the TV series La Femme Nikita. He landed his first major film role in 1968, in Finian's Rainbow, directed by a young Francis Ford Coppolla and co-starring with Fred Astaire and Petula Clark.

Francks' full filmography begins in the mid-1950's and includes on-screen work in series like The Man From Uncle, Mission Impossible, Mannix, Ben Casey, Mr. Rogers Neighbourhood, Relic Hunter, PSI Factor, and Earth – Final Conflict.

Currently, he is working on the new biography of Bob Dylan, called 'I'm Not There', in Montreal, with co-stars Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Julianne Moore. Besides acting, he's a well-known jazz singer and spoken-word performer, poet, calligrapher, and artist.

Based in Oakville, CHWO is owned by Prime Time Radio LP. The station was originally launched in 1956 on AM 1250 by broadcaster Howard Caine and a number of minority investors. His wife Jean was appointed to the board of directors and took over the station's management in 1967. Frequency reassignments and call letters changes followed, and a sister station was launched by the company in 2001.
