Accessible Media Inc. announced today that two new AMI Originals Presents television specials will air during the month of August on AMI-tv.

Each of the specials focuses on a unique topic while maintaining a common theme of inclusion pertaining to both physical and emotional abilities. In keeping with AMI's mandate of making accessible media for all Canadians, each special will be fully described and captioned to be accessible to those living with vision or hearing loss.

"We're very pleased with the creativity and aptitude our team has demonstrated during the production of these specials," says John Melville, Vice-President of Programming and Production for AMI-tv. "We are committed to creating unique and engaging original content that is of particular interest to our audience by exploring topics that are not traditionally covered by mainstream media."

The first special will air on Wednesday, August 5. Counting Steps follows 17-year-old Charlotte Brown, a blind pole vaulter competing against able-bodied athletes on her way to the Texas State Championship. Although she's facing some big obstacles, the documentary focuses on Charlotte's determination as she aims for her first podium placement at an elite event in Austin.

Next, catch Eyes on the North on Wednesday, August 19. In many of Canada's most remote communities access to health care is tough, and specialized care is usually non-existent. One unique solution in Northern Ontario is hoping to bridge that gap. Eyes on the North learns more about this initiative and follows three patients on their respective journeys to better eye health.

Both AMI Originals Presents specials will be available to watch online with the AMI-player after the initial air dates.
