The Banff World Media Festival today proudly announced that CBS Corporation will be the inaugural Company of Distinction at next year’s Festival, being held from June 9 – 12, 2013 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, in Banff Canada.

As the Company of Distinction, executives, producers and talent from CBS Corp. programming divisions will be featured during the four-day Festival in different facets of the event, including: Keynotes, Media Leaders sessions, the Rockies Award Gala, and BANFF’s famed Master Classes.

The new Company of Distinction program, which is being introduced in 2013, will allow the Festival to pay homage each year to a company demonstrating significant leadership in the world of screen based entertainment.

“We are extremely delighted to announce CBS as BANFF’s first Company of Distinction,” said Barbara Williams, SVP Content, Shaw Media, and the Chair of the Banff Foundation Board of Directors. “This collaboration between CBS and BANFF represents a powerful synergy; combining a world leading content company with the production and development marketplace that defines an industry. We look very forward to welcoming the CBS executives and talent to BANFF next June.”

CBS Corporation is one of the world’s top content companies, with industry leading programming divisions including: CBS Television Network, the most watched U.S. broadcast network; CBS Television Studios, one of the leading producers of prime time television programming including the top two global franchises, CSI and NCIS; Showtime, the acclaimed and growing premium cable network; CBS Television Distribution, the preeminent company in U.S. television syndication; and CBS Studios International, the leading worldwide distributor of television programming.

“BANFF is very proud to feature CBS Corporation as its inaugural Company of Distinction,” said Ferne Cohen, Executive Director of the Festival. “CBS’ remarkable success and diversity makes it most deserving of this prestigious designation. We know the delegates will benefit greatly by hearing directly from top CBS executives, producers and talent, and will really get to know the overall CBS brand.”

If the "Company Of Distinction" were based only on 2012, there are several other companies other than CBS that would deserve this award.

But if the award is meant to honor the entire history of a network, then CBS and Britain's BBC may be the only two broadcasters worthy of this award.

After all, CBS helped to pioneer broadcast journalism as we now know it.
