CBC News announced today that David Common, a multi-talented correspondent currently based in New York City, will take over as anchor of one of CBC News’s flagship programs: CBC Radio One’s World Report. Common will take the helm in September of the most widely heard radio newscast in Canada, formerly anchored by Peter Armstrong.

“David is famous for his energy, commitment and personality, and will make a perfect host for World Report,” said Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor-in-chief, CBC News and Centres. “He has covered an extraordinary range of stories and assignments for the CBC, most recently in Boston, and also in Haiti, Japan, Iraq, and a year in Afghanistan, among others. He’s covered stories in more than 50 countries, and will no doubt become part of the fabric of the morning in this country.”

A native of Winnipeg who grew up in Toronto, David Common is renowned for his embrace of new technologies, new ways of working and creative thinking. Common will be returning to Toronto with his family to take the chair of World Report, where more than one million Canadians tune in to start their day.
