CTV News Vancouver Island today announced the launch of two revitalized weekday evening newscasts. Kicking off Monday, April 14, viewers will experience an all-new CTV News at Five and CTV News at Six, featuring a series of new and refreshed segments that deliver all the latest breaking news from the familiar local news personalities the region has come to trust.
“We are pleased to serve up fresh, new evening broadcasts to our dedicated viewers across Vancouver Island,” said Heather Kim, News Director, CTV News Vancouver Island. “What remains unchanged is our commitment to delivering the most thorough and comprehensive newscasts our viewers rely on and trust.”
A fast-paced magazine-style broadcast that delivers the most popular news, current affairs, and weekly segments on topics that affect and interest Vancouver Island viewers, the newly revamped CTV News at Five welcomes anchor Joe Perkins, familiar to viewers from his role on CTV News Weekend as anchor and reporter. Perkins is joined by co-hosts Mira Laurence and Adam Sawatsky. Best known for her long-standing role as the station’s suppertime sports anchor, Laurence is set to deliver the latest information and trends on health, nutrition, and lifestyle. As Vancouver Island’s only local arts and culture reporter, Sawatsky will broaden his coverage, delivering “water cooler” topics including pop culture, entertainment and celebrity news, fashion and technology trends, as well as the latest happenings on the local arts scene.
CTV Vancouver Island’s flagship newscast, CTV News at Six is poised to continue delivering the comprehensive hour of local, provincial, national, and international news viewers have come to expect, while introducing a team of seasoned and familiar reporters to viewers. Andrew Johnson anchors the newscast, with Astrid Braunschmidt delivering weather reports and Jordan Cunningham settling in to anchor sports. CTV News at Six rounds out the hour with in-depth stories and coverage, including a new weekly segment ‘Hartland Helps’, a consumer-issue driven segment offering viewers assistance and information from CTV News reporter, Louise Hartland.
