Discovery Networks Canada Appoints Director Commissioning and Production

Ken MacDonald, Discovery Channel Canada’s Vice-President of Programming, is delighted to announce the appointment of Edwina Follows to the position of Director, Commissioning and Production, Discovery Networks. In her new role, Follows will be responsible for the commissioning, development and production of independent programming for Discovery Channel and its related networks (Animal Planet, Discovery World HD, Investigation Discovery and Discovery Science).

Follows is an internationally-respected player in independent production, with relationships in both the production and broadcast sectors in Canada and around the world. Follows joined Discovery Channel in 2005 as producer of Exploration Production Inc.’s  Forensic Factor and On The Run – both series received multiple Gemini Award nominations and wins. Prior to joining Discovery Channel, she enjoyed a successful career as a screenwriter for Canadian and U.S. television series including Brace Face, Traders, Relic Hunter, Beast Master, Emily of New Moon, and Pit Pony.

Follows leaves her most recent post as EPI’s Director of Production, a role she had held since 2008. Under her focused leadership, EPI has grown to become a leading producer of high-quality and critically-acclaimed documentary series and specials, including Queen Mary II, Mighty Ships, Nerve Centre, Forensic Factor, and the soon-to-launch Mighty Planes – programs which have achieved success not only on Discovery Channel, but in markets around the world.

Follows brings to her new role a passion for and deep understanding of Discovery audiences and what it takes to produce programming which meets high expectations associated with the Discovery Canada brand. With Discovery Channel’s commitment to developing the world’s best factual content in partnership with the Canadian production community, and the company’s leadership position in international co-production.
