Global Edmonton and Shaw are looking to make a difference in the community this holiday season with the ninth annual Give Me Shelter campaign. Launching Wednesday, November 14, the campaign aims to collect and distribute unwrapped gifts to five local women’s shelters, providing much-needed items for women and children who have suffered domestic violence.
“We’re proud to support the community and make the holidays brighter for women and children in need with donated items” says Tim Spelliscy, Senior Director, Edmonton and Prairie Region. “We are reaching out to our viewers and asking for their help and hopes of receiving more donations this year than any other.”
Viewers are asked to donate to the Give Me Shelter campaign by dropping off unwrapped gifts, including new clothing, toiletries, and unwrapped toys between Wednesday, November 14 and Friday, December 14 at designated drop off locations around Edmonton. Once collected, these gifts will be transported by five city buses, graciously donated by the Edmonton Transit System to the five women’s shelters: Win House, WINGS, A Safe Place, LaSalle Residence and Lurana Shelter.
Donations can also be made at University of Alberta Golden Bears and Golden Pandas hockey, volleyball and basketball games taking place November 23, 24 and 25. The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra will also collect donations during their performances of Handel’s Messiah as part of the 2012 Christmas at the Winspear special held December 7 and 8.
