The ReelWorld Film Festival is delighted to announce Global News has renewed its support of Canada's premiere film festival focussed on ALL racial diversity by becoming a platinum partner and presenting ReelWorld Toronto's Closing Night film Traces of Sandalwood.

The 15th Annual ReelWorld Film Festival runs from March 2 to 7, 2024 in Toronto and March 8, 2024 in Markham. It presents seven days of films from around the globe; a professional development series that delivers on what every emerging and establishing artist needs to know - from the perspective of being and becoming a successful racially diverse artist; and an awards series.

The film showcase opens in the heart of the city at Scotiabank Theatre on March 4, with the screening of Jeanette Kong's Finding Samuel Lowe: From Harlem to China.

Wrapping screenings in Toronto on March 7, ReelWorld and Global News offer a special presentation of an Indian/Spanish/French film Traces of Sandalwood, directed by Maria Ripoll and written and produced by Anna Soler-Pont. This film focusses on a successful Indian actress in Mumbai who is plagued with questions about what happened to the little sister she was separated from as a small child. After 30 years, the actress locates her sister alive and well in Barcelona. Traces of Sandalwood is a story of hope and love from Mumbai to Barcelona; from India to the Mediterranean and all the way back.

The Toronto closing night event will be emceed by Global's award-winning investigative and consumer reporter Sean O'Shea and it will include the award presentation.

"It's a privilege to have such loyal partners as Global News. Their tremendous support during the last decade has allowed us to showcase dramas, documentaries, shorts and music videos by emerging and establishing artists who view the world from a variety of perspectives," says Actress Tonya Williams, Founder and Executive Director of ReelWorld Film Festival.

"Global News is excited to partner with The ReelWorld Film Festival again this year," says Ward Smith, Director, Eastern Canada & Toronto Station Manager. "We are honoured to be a part of a community where festival-goers can learn more about Canada's diverse culture through powerful storytelling."

The 2024 ReelWorld schedule boasts more than 80 per cent of films by Canadian artists. In total, ReelWorld will present 13 world premieres and a significant number of films by female directors. Forty-six per cent of features are by women, including the opening night gala film and closing night gala film in Toronto. Programmed dramas, documentaries, shorts and music videos will "take" audiences to Afghanistan, Canada, China, India, Iran, Jamaica, USA, and Trinidad and Tobago.
