Global Toronto is once again teaming up with the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association this holiday season for the sixth-annual Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive. Officially launching today, this charitable initiative will also feature a festive family-friendly event including a live broadcast of Global Toronto’s News Hour at the Shops at Don Mills on Thursday, November 29.

Global Toronto is giving Torontonians the chance to celebrate this worthy cause, and spread good holiday cheer, with its special Toy Drive Live holiday event taking place at the town square area of Shops at Don Mills   on November 29. Anchor Leslie Roberts will broadcast live from the event, along with Host Susan Hay and Global Toronto Meteorologist Anthony Farnell, who will conduct his nightly weather report on location.

“We are proud to once again lend our support to the Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive and all they do for the community,” says Ward Smith, Senior Director, News & Station Operations, Eastern Region. “Last year’s event was a resounding success and brought viewers and families from all over the city together to get into the holiday spirit while supporting an immensely worthwhile cause.”

The public is invited to join the fun  and asked to bring along a new, unwrapped toy to the event for donation in exchange for a free burger from South St. Burger Co, drink from Aroma Espresso Bar, appetizer from P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and cookie from The Bier Markt.

Families can drop off their holiday letters to Santa, enjoy a selection of holiday carols sung by the Crestwood School Choir, and catch the official lighting of two trees, taking place between 5:30 and 5:45pm. The Toy Drive Live event will also feature a booth where kids can dress up in fire gear, and a fun and interactive dance show for children, full of lights, music and energy. Attendees can also enter a draw to win a $500 Cadillac Fairview shop card.

News Hour’s Susan Hay will kick off the Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive this evening with live coverage during the News Hour broadcast from Station # 123 on Bond Street beginning at 5:30 pm. Coverage of the Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive will continue on Global Toronto throughout the holiday season.

“The continued support from Global Toronto has been instrumental in the success of the Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive as we move into our sixth year together,” said Rick Berenz, President, Toronto Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive. “Last year, the Toy Drive raised over 20,000 toys, something that wouldn’t be possible without the help and the generosity of the citizens of Toronto. Thanks to them, we are able to give children in need from across the GTA a special gift this holiday season.”
