Shaw Communications Inc. today announced several deals that will make Global the broadcast home of golf for Canadian golf fans, securing 26 weekends of PGA Tour broadcasts through 2018 and the rights to broadcast weekend coverage of Presidents Cup play in 2015 and 2017.

“These new agreements make Global the home of the most comprehensive golf coverage on Canadian television,” said Paul Robertson, President, Shaw Media. “We’re thrilled to bring viewers this generation of golf’s best players competing for the top prizes and titles.”

Global will broadcast some of the best tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule, including The Players Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance, the RBC Canadian Open and the four FedExCup playoff events, concluding with the Tour Championship, the final event in the race for the $10 million winner of the FedExCup. This week’s PGA Tour stop at the Northern Trust Open will air live on Global in HD across Canada  on Saturday, February 16 Sunday, February 17.

In addition, Global’s broadcast of international golf competition will get a significant boost with weekend coverage of the 2015 and 2017 Presidents Cup; a biennial international match-play event featuring the world's best non-European players competing against top-ranked players from the United States.

“We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Shaw Communications,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. “Canadian golf fans have always demonstrated a strong appetite for PGA Tour golf and this partnership allows those fans to enjoy our product on a consistent platform for the next five years. The PGA  is committed to golf in Canada and we are delighted to have Shaw as our partner.”

As part of its broadcast schedule, Global will also air a weekly 30-minute program capturing highlights and player interviews from PGA Tour Canada events across the country. The program, produced by PGA Tour Entertainment, will air on Sundays and lead into Global’s final round PGA TOUR event broadcasts.

Shaw, the PGA TourOUR and Golf Canada also announced that Shaw Business will become a Premier sponsor of the RBC Canadian Open through 2017. That deal includes Global producing and airing a special 60-minute pre-game show ahead of weekend coverage, featuring exclusive player interviews and highlights to ensure golf fans won’t miss any of the action.

“The RBC Canadian Open provides an ideal platform with significant opportunities to enhance awareness of Shaw Business as a solid business-to-business brand across Canada,” said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications Inc. “Being a premier sponsor of Canada’s national open championship is a perfect fit for us, appealing to business customers from Bay Street to Main Street.”

Shaw Business owns one of the largest fibre-optic networks in North America. Every day, nearly two million residential and business customers rely on Shaw’s 625,000 km of fibre to deliver them phone, Internet, HDTV and data content.

“On behalf of Golf Canada, RBC and everyone involved with the RBC Canadian Open, we are thrilled to have Shaw Business align their brand with Canada’s National Open Championship,” said Scott Simmons, CEO of Golf Canada. “Together with Global TV and the PGA Tour, we look forward to working in partnership over the next five years to elevate the profile of the RBC Canadian Open to millions of Canadian golf fans from coast to coast.”
