REGINA - Veteran Saskatchewan broadcaster Johnny Sandison, often referred to as the "morning mayor of Regina" during his CKCK Radio heyday in the 1960s and '70s, died last week. He was 78.

Sandison joined CKCK in 1958 and was their morning host for 21 years, doubling for a long time as CKCK-TV's weatherman, too. He was a long time community leader and also an Order of Canada recipient. He retired from what became CKTV in 1996.

"I worked with Johnny at CKCK Radio beginning in 1974 and he was a major influence in my radio career which continues now into it's 33rd year," said Royal Watson, in an e-mail to broadcastermagazine.com.

Those wishing may make donations in hiss memory may do so to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, Cardiosciences, 225, 1874 Scarth Street, PO Box 1697, Regina, SK S4P 3Z6.
