OMNI TV Honours Year of the Snake

OMNI Television commemorates the Year of the Snake with festival coverage that captures the essence of Chinese New Year celebrations. Presenting two weekends of exciting specials, including a five-part exploratory series, original features, and event coverage at home and abroad, OMNI Television is Canada’s premier destination for Chinese New Year programming.

Beginning Saturday, Feb. 9  with Travelling in the Chinese New Year: Weinan in Shaanxi, OMNI Television takes viewers on a journey to the region of Weinan in Shaanxi to explore local New Year’s customs in the first installment of a five-part Mandarin series. Shedding light on essential rituals, cuisine, and customs of Chinese New Year, the additional four installments of the two-hour Travelling in the Chinese New Year specials feature the regions of Qinling in Shaanxi (Feb. 9), Youxi in Fujian (Feb. 16), Jilin City in Jilin (Feb. 16), and Wuyuan in Jiangxi (Feb. 17).

Exploring Chinese New Year celebrations in Canada, OMNI Television highlights the country’s New Year’s festivities with two weekends of exclusive original features and special presentations. Kicking things off on Saturday, Feb. 9, OMNI News goes in-depth with two one-hour specials highlighting the extraordinary festivities occurring in Canada for the Year of the Snake with the National Mandarin New Year Special  and the National Cantonese New Year Special. On Sunday, Feb. 17 at, the Culture Avenue Chinese New Year Special presents the sights and sounds of festival celebrations across Canada.

The Year of the Snake is honoured with a colourful parade in Vancouver’s Chinatown. This special takes viewers to the action where alluring characters, firecrackers, and lion dancing spill into the streets.

Chinese New Year Taiwan Gala

Sunday, Feb. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OMNI.2 and OMNI.BC (in Mandarin) *One-hour Special*

Presented by Taiwan’s Macroview Television, this variety show features theatrical performances, as well as interviews with actor Mark Chao and director Chen-Zer Niu.

OMNI Television celebrates Chinese New Year Sunday, Feb. 17 with the OMNI BC Year of the Snake Celebration Special, featuring extensive coverage of the annual parade in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Following Canada’s homegrown celebrations, OMNI Television ushers in the Year of the Snake with the fan-favourite CCTV Beijing Chinese New Year Gala , a Mandarin variety show presented by Taiwan’s Macroview Television featuring theatrical performances and celebrity interviews.
