Rogers Media, in partnership with Seneca College, announced today a newly-created four-month internship entitled GenNOW, giving students the unique opportunity to gain real work experience as on-air radio announcers in Canada’s most competitive radio market while simultaneously earning a course credit.

Beginning January 2013, select students enrolled in their final year of Seneca College’s Broadcasting – Radio program will each take the helm of the microphone on KiSS 92.5, hosting overnight shifts from the station’s downtown Toronto studio.

“Developing the skills of future on-air talent and giving back to the community are key priorities for us,” said Julie Adam, Vice-President of Programming, Rogers Radio. “Partnering with Seneca College to launch GenNOW is a natural fit, and exciting opportunity for us to mentor students, while challenging them with real on-air experience.”

Students enrolled in the GenNOW course will receive both an on-air announcing internship experience and a Seneca College course credit – earned entirely on-site at the KiSS 92.5 studios.

Through this exciting internship experience at the KiSS 92.5 studios, GenNOW students will be able to develop their announcing skills while receiving unequalled access to mentoring sessions from KiSS 92.5 on-air hosts, production staff, and programming executives, while participating in a series of on-air exercises to become intimately familiar with the skills it takes to succeed in an on-air radio career.

“I’ve been teaching for more than 19 years at Seneca, and Rogers Media is the first media company to make a commitment of this kind,” said Jim Carr, co-ordinator and professor for Seneca College’s Radio – Broadcasting program. “By awarding a course credit for this internship, students are given a far more challenging and rewarding experience to develop and hone their announcing skills.”

GenNOW is currently open for students to apply, with selection taking place in the coming weeks.
