WEST CHICAGO, Ill., June 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Burpee - the first name in home gardening - and "The Chew's" Daphne Oz are teaming up to inspire people and help spread vegetable love. Growing your own vegetables and herbs is a great way to ensure people have flavorful, bright and nutritious veggies on the table. Whether you're planting your vegetable garden in containers on your deck or in the backyard, Burpee Plants and Daphne Oz have developed easy tips and a delicious recipe to take people from planting day to dinnertime.

In addition, Daphne Oz and Burpee Plants have teamed up with HealthCorps to inspire and encourage the next generation of home chefs. Burpee and Daphne Oz are asking people to share their vegetable inspirations, from their patio gardens to their prepared meals, on Instagram and tag @BurpeeHG and @HealthCorps. For every post, Burpee will donate a vegetable plant to support school cooking and gardening programs. Together, they want to spread the enjoyment and fun that goes along with growing and eating your own vegetables and herbs.

"There are few things more fulfilling than planting a vegetable, watching it grow and then serving it to friends and family," said Tim Duffin of Burpee Plants. "Growing vegetables is something easy that people can enjoy in urban areas and large spaces, alone or with their families. That's why we're proud to partner with Daphne Oz and Health Corps to help spread more vegetable love."

From large yards to small patios, anyone and everyone can easily grow and enjoy their own vegetables. "As a working mom, with two kids two and under, it's important for me to serve my family delicious food that's easy and fun to prepare," stated Daphne Oz. "Growing my own veggies and herbs is a great way for me to do that. Burpee and I have teamed up to help inspire gardeners and chefs of all kinds!"

DAPHNE OZ'S FOOLPROOF STEPS TOWARDS STARTING YOUR OWN VEGGIE GARDEN

-- Be fearless! It's okay to take risks and experiment with your herb and vegetable garden. If your rosemary plant dies, it's easy and inexpensive to swap in another one. -- Get the whole family involved! I've found Burpee plants have my favorite herbs and veggies and planting them with my kids is always a fun experience. Have your family members decorate their own special pots for their veggies so they feel an extra sense of pride. Finally, get them harvesting! Kids love to pick tomatoes and cucumbers off-the-vine. -- Start small and sunny. I live in an apartment so I don't have a ton of space for a large garden. That's okay though, since one of the biggest mistakes first-time gardeners make is planning an area that's too large to maintain. Plus, many veggies and herbs look and grow beautifully in large containers and patio pots. Be sure to put them in a place with a lot of sun! -- Texturize your garden. Vegetables and herbs not only provide the foundation for delicious food but they're also colorful and smell great. Create a garden that appeals to all of your senses. Burpee Plants has a great line of tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and peppers that are great first-time veggies. Herbs like basil, mint, sage and thyme also grow quickly with little effort. Mixing and matching veggies and herbs that your family likes is a perfect way to enjoy them from start to finish.

    SHARE YOUR #VEGSPIRATION

Burpee and Daphne would love to see how people get their veggie on. From now through Labor Day, 2024, people can share their veggie inspiration on Instagram tagging Burpee and HealthCorps. For every post, Burpee will donate a plant to a school. It can be a gorgeous meal full of vegetables, a snap of their garden, or however the flavor and fun of fresh veggies excite people!
