TORONTO - The Global Television Network announced today that production has begun on the half-hour comedy pilot The Jane Show, starring Second City alumnus Teresa Pavlinek.

The pilot is scheduled to air early 2005. The Jane Show is part of the Global Labs, a new Global Television initiative designed to develop and fast track creative properties.

Produced by Shaftesbury Films, the pilot stars Pavlinek as Jane, an ordinary office worker on her not-so-ordinary adventures. It's The Office meets Sex in the City as Jane and her too-perfect best friend, Susan (Polly Shannon) deal with dating, job stress, love and the strange assortment of characters they work with. The pilot co-stars Kate Trotter, John Ralston and Keram Malicki-Sanchez

"The Jane Show is a quirky, edgy comedy. Think Mary Tyler Moore for Gen Xers," said Loren Mawhinney, Global's vice-president of Canadian production. "We are so excited that this 30-minute pilot is also the first episode of our Drama Labs initiative. We are delighted to work with Christina Jennings and the fabulous cast including Teresa Pavlinek, Polly Shannon and Kate Trotter."

The Jane Show is produced by Christina Jennings and Virginia Rankin, directed by Ron Murphy (Train 48, The Gavin Crawford Show), and written by Ralph Chapman and Teresa Pavlinek.
