Moncton,- A Christian radio station in New Brunswick will be licensed to broadcast commercials.

The CRTC has given the go ahead to CKOE-FM to sell ads despite the opposition of commercial stations.

The youth community station -- also known as Xtreme 101 -- hopes to generate about 215-thousand dollars in the first year.

The cash will go to salaries for staff, who are currently all volunteers.

The commission says given it's low wattage and the fact existing commercial stations continue to profit Xtreme 101 will not pose a serious threat in the Moncton market.
