Toronto - Alliance Atlantis Communications is expecting to launch at least eight specialty digital channels this fall, according to its marketing plans.

With anywhere from 30 to 50 (depending on who you talk to) new digital specialty services launching in the fall, the company will launch both of its category one licenses, Health Network Canada and the Independent Film Channel Canada, as well as category two licenses BBC Canada; BBC Kids; National Geographic Canada; and three movie channels themed around romance, action and classic movies.

However, carriage deals for any channels, regardless of company, with any of the distributors, have yet to be completed.

As well, the CRTC has yet to approve Alliance Atlantis' acquisition of the Independent Film channel, which it acquired when it bought Salter Street Films earlier this month.

Look for carriage deals to be announced with much fanfare at the Canadian Cable Television Association convention, May 27-29.
