Zenith to guide users through HDTV haze

Lincolnshire, Ill., - To help educate consumers about the growing amounts of free over-the-air high-definition television (HDTV) programming, Zenith Electronics Corporation has joined forces with Decisionmark Corp. to provide a unique interactive online electronic program guide (EPG) that highlights U.S. digital TV channels and programs.

Zenith's new HDTV EPG, being launched this week, is a customized version of Decisionmark's Technology Retail Zone, the premier source of digital TV reception information. Consumers will be able to enter their address and quickly determine which local TV stations are broadcasting digitally, what programs are available in high-definition television (HDTV) and even suggestions about antennas for optimal DTV reception at their location.

Supporting Zenith's goal of becoming the "ultimate high-definition authority," this announcement comes on the heels of this month's launch of Zenith's largest advertising campaign to promote its digital products, which include the industry's first integrated HDTVs under $1,500 and a broad selection of plasma displays, LCD TVs, HDTV monitors and set-top boxes.

"With the networks providing more HDTV programming this fall, along with the nearly 500 stations already broadcasting in digital, it makes perfect sense for Zenith to provide a comprehensive program guide for their customers to aid in DTV consumer awareness and education," said Jack Perry, president and CEO of Decisionmark Corp.

Consumers who visit the Zenith site ( will be able to access Decisionmark's Retail Zone, the first interactive, real-time information tool that explains to consumers interested in digital programming exactly what DTV broadcast channels they can expect to receive at their address, what programming content is available in digital and helps them determine the ideal antenna for optimum results.

Sam Caputo, Zenith's director of advertising and brand management, said, "We selected TitanTV technology to assist us because of the relationship Decisionmark has with the broadcast stations around the country as well as their proven data and technology. Because its technology is tied directly into the broadcasters themselves, we are assured that our customers will be receiving the most updated reception and programming information available anywhere."

The launch of the Zenith-TitanTV site coincides with the September premieres of fall network TV programs -- many of which are now available nationwide in HDTV. In fact, Caputo explained, as a key element of Zenith's advertising program, the company is sponsoring the majority of primetime HDTV programs on CBS and all HDTV primetime programs on ABC for the 2002-03 season.
