Toronto, - BCE Inc., has begun dismantling Bell Globemedia Interactive and the company's convergence strategy by cutting 18 per cent of its work force. In total, the online division of Bell Globemedia is cutting 70 jobs. The move follows last week's reorganization of the media company.

Bell Globemedia's assets include the Globe and Mail, CTV and a long list of specialty channels.

Those losing their jobs have been given notice and will leave the company over the next few weeks.

The cuts hit all departments, including sales and marketing, and technical support.

The interactive division will end operations and the management of Web sites will return to their respective parent companies.

About 60 staff from the interactive division will return to the Globe and Mail.

An additional 140 staff working on Web portal Sympatico will be employed directly by BCE.
