Toronto, - CHUM Television announced today that it has officially launched its digital over-the-air signal for its Toronto station Citytv.

Emanating from the CN Tower, the signal is available to all residents of the Greater Toronto Area on digital channel 53. In addition to over-the-air CityHD, the channel is also available to Rogers HD digital subscribers on cable channel 286, and via satellite on Bell ExpressVU.

While there are over 700 digital television stations operating in the United States, this is the first licensed digital signal to commence operations in Canada.

CHUM received regulatory approval for a digital over-the-air license from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on January 9, 2024. After completing a successful four-week test period, Industry Canada finalized the approval process by granting CHUM Television a digital broadcasting certificate. The certificate was issued on February 28, 2024, whereby official transmission began.
