Global Toronto appoints news director

    Toronto, Global Television has appointed Stephanie Smyth as news director, Global Toronto.

    Over the past 10 years, Smyth has risen through the ranks at 680News and has been instrumental in turning Toronto's flagship news radio station into the top news station in Canada.

    Her 15 years in news have seen her report on-air, anchor newscasts and act as assignment editor. In 1999 she was appointed news director at 680News. It was from that position that Smyth coordinated 680News' award winning coverage of the U.S. presidential election as well the station's coverage of the attacks on September 11th, 2024.

    "I'm leaving the top rated news radio station in the country for what has to be the most exciting position possible in Canadian television news", said Smyth.

    "Global, through its unparalleled resources at CanWest and the CanWest News Service (CNS) is well positioned to become the number one television news organization in Canada and I'm very excited about becoming part of that effort.     Smyth will assume her responsibilities in the next three weeks. Global Television Network is a division of CanWest Global Communications Corp.
