  • MuchMoreMusic, CBC to air "SARS-stock"

    7/24/2003

TORONTO - It looks as though all Canadians will be able to take in what will be the largest rock concert in the country's history.

Radio station 680 News is reporting this morning that Chum Television's MuchMoreMusic and the CBC will hold a press conference today to announce the two channels will team up to air the benefit concert headlined by The Rolling Stones and AC/DC being held in Toronto July 30th.

The report said that MuchMoreMusic will be live all day from Downsview Park in north Toronto - since acts like Blue Rodeo, Justin Timberlake, Sam Roberts, Rush and the Guess Who will play all day - while CBC will show the final few hours of the concert featuring The Stones.

The concert is a benefit for the city of Toronto, which has seen its tourist industry ravaged by the world-wide hysteria over the SARS virus, to help rebuild its profile and draw visitors back to the city. So far, over 430,000 tickets have been sold.

No word yet on whether or not a U.S. channel (VH1, perhaps?) will pick up the broadcast, too.
