Flames TV launches

CALGARY - Fans of the NHL's Calgary Flames now have a whole new way of staying connected with their favorite NHL team with the official launch today of Flames TV, a free on-line television channel.

Flames TV launched last week with game highlights from last year (current non-televised games will be featured once the season starts), player profiles, great moments in Flames history, player interviews, Jumbotron clips, dressing room tour, and a brand new weekly hockey talk show It's About Hockey featuring The Score's Deb Matejicka. New features on the way in coming weeks include The Bearcat Murray Show, the coach's corner, tips from the pros, trainer tips, and the Flames fans' speaker's corner.

"The convergence of television and the Internet was a big factor in the dot com boom, and ironically, the dot com bust as well," said Randy Lennon of Flames Ventures. "The reality was that delivering viewable television over the Internet didn't happen as fast as we all thought it would back in 1997. Very quietly, and without a lot of fanfare over the past couple of years, television has converged with the Internet primarily because almost everyone now has a high speed connection. This has opened up a huge opportunity."

That opportunity has been successfully exploited by Flames Ventures by entering into a revenue sharing agreement with Calgary based media streaming leader Jet Stream Digital Media Inc. The result is ten brand new sponsors for the Calgary Flames, a brand new revenue stream, and a new free service for Flames Fans.

"Our fans are going to enjoy this new avenue of Flames information," said Ken King, president and CEO of the hockey club. "Through our new Flames Ventures group we can develop exciting new revenue streams that provide the kind of business sustainability and creativity that's required to lead the NHL on the ice and in all aspects of our business. The fans also want us to be successful in generating new revenues to make this a viable business in Calgary."

To access Flames TV anyone with a high speed connection simply logs on to and clicks on the Flames TV link.
