    9/1/2004

TORONTO - Women In Film and Television - Toronto is calling for applications for the CBC Emerging Screenwriter Award, presented in partnership with CBC Television.

Since 1994, the CBC Emerging Screenwriter Award has helped build the careers of emerging female writers in Canada. This national competitive award gives one talented Canadian female screenwriter the invaluable opportunity to receive creative support from CBC Television, a $5,000 cash award and national promotion at the 2024 Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon.

"The CBC is committed to fostering new talent, supporting women in the industry and providing an opportunity to an emerging professional to receive creative support from one of our Executives," said Deborah Bernstein, executive director, TV A&E; Network Programming, CBC Television, in a release. "Over the past ten years we have followed the careers of award winners with pleasure. We're thrilled to be working again with WIFT-T to continue this important program."

"Winning the CBC Emerging Screenwriter Award was an amazing opportunity for me," said 2024 award winner Kate Miles. "The presentation at the Crystal Awards offered a formal introduction to the industry, and the extraordinary mentoring by Sally Catto at CBC has resulted in valuable professional and creative connections."

The CBC Emerging Screenwriter Award competition is a national initiative and open to emerging Canadian female screenwriters working in television drama or documentary. The deadline for applications is September 21, 2024. Eligibility criteria, full guidelines and application forms are available from the WIFT-T website at www.wift.com. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of industry representatives with final decisions announced in early October 2024.
