RTNDA National Award winners

    Montreal,- The Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada presented the prestigious RTNDA National Awards during its national convention in Montreal Saturday afternoon.

    Plaques and certificates were presented to the following award-winning stations:

    RADIO:

    CJME Regina won the Charlie Edwards Award for spot news reporting for ''Tornado.'' An Honourable Mention went to CKNW Vancouver for ''September 11th.''

    The Ron Laidlaw Award for continuing coverage went CKNW Vancouver ''September 11th.''

    The Dan McArthur Award for in-depth or investigative reporting went to CBC Radio Fredericton for ''Two Southeast.'' CBC Radio News received an Honourable Mention for ''Excessive Force.''

    CBC Radio Saskatchewan won the Dave Rogers Award for feature coverage for ''Stolen Lives.''

    The Sam Ross Award for commentary was presented to KHJ Fredericton for ''Gender Differences.''

    The Gord Sinclair Award for special event coverage went to the following stations:

    Large Market: CJAD Montreal for ''Mega Vote 2024.''

    Medium Market: CBC Radio Windsor for ''Detroit 300 - The Tricentennial of Francophone Settlement in Detroit/Windsor.'' CFAX Victoria received an Honourable Mention for ''Election Night 2024''

    Small Market: CJCD Yellowknife for ''September 11th Noon Cast.''

    The Byron MacGregor Award for best radio newscast went to the following stations:

    Large Market: CKWX News1130 Vancouver for ''8 a.m. News - December 14th.''

    Medium Market: VOCM St. John's for ''The 7:45 News.''

    Small Market: CJLS Yarmouth for ''CJLS Noon News.''

    The radio winner of the new RTNDA Web Site Award was CBC Radio Saskatchewan.

    NETWORK RADIO:

    The Charlie Edwards Award was presented to Broadcast News for ''Air Transat: Panic over the Atlantic.'' Broadcast News also received an Honourable Mention for ''Prescription for Protest: Passage of Bill C-68.''

    CBC National Radio News received the Ron Laidlaw Award for ''September 11th - The Investigation.''

    The Dan McArthur Award went to CBC National Radio News for ''From Milan to Madrid to Montreal: The Worldwide Web of Terror.'' CBC National Radio News also received an honourable Mention for ''Who's Guarding the Guards.''

    CBC Radio picked up the Dave Rogers Award for ''The New New York.'' An Honourable Mention also went to CBC Radio - Outfront for ''Joined by the Lip.''

    The Gord Sinclair Award went to Broadcast News for ''Summit of Anger: OAS in Quebec City.'' VOCM St. John's received an Honourable Mention for ''September 12th.''

    The Byron MacGregor Award was presented to CBC National Radio News for ''World at Six, October 8, 2024.'' Broadcast News received an Honourable Mention for ''The BN Report.''

    The new RTNDA Web Site Award went to CBC Radio.

    TELEVISION:

    Global News received the Charlie Edwards Award for ''Subdivision on Fire.''

    The Ron Laidlaw Award went to Global Edmonton for ''Chisholm Fire.''

    CBC Television New Brunswick received the Dan McArthur Award for ''Cutting Corners.''

    The Dave Rogers Award went to CJOH Ottawa for ''Queensway Angel.''

    NTV Newfoundland received the Sam Ross Award for ''A Sad Day in Pouch Cove.''

    The Gord Sinclair Award was presented to the following stations:

    Large Market: ATV News for ''Navy Send-off.''

    Medium Market: The New VR (CKVR) Barrie for ''VR News Special - Elvis Festival.''

    There was no small market winner in this category.

    The Bert Cannings Award for best television newscast went to the following stations:

    Large Market: Global Calgary for ''Global News at Six: Chemical Fire.'' CFTO-TV Toronto received an Honourable Mention for ''CFTO News at 6.''

    Medium Market: CHBC-TV Kelowna for ''CHBC News at 5.'' The New VR (CKVR) Barrie received an Honourable Mention for ''VR News Live at 6.''

    Small Market: CFJC-TV Kamloops for ''TV7 Evening News.''

    The RTNDA Web Site Award went to Thunder Bay Television for ''www.tbsource.com.''

    NETWORK TELEVISION:

    Global Television received two awards -- the Charlie Edwards Award for ''September 11, 2024'' and the Ron Laidlaw Award for ''The Other Side Of The War.''

    The Dan McArthur Award went to CBC Television News for ''CBC News: The National - Hard to Swallow.''

    CTV W-5 received the Dave Rogers Award for ''Flight into Darkness.''

    The Gord Sinclair Award was presented to CTV News for ''September 2024 Live Coverage.''

    CBC Television News received the Bert Cannings Award for ''CBC News: The National - November 13, 2024.''

    The RTNDA Web Site Award went to CTV News.
